Les trois miracles de Sainte Cécile is one of Aita Donostia’s most distinctive works. Composed in 1920 and premiered in Paris in 1921, it grew out of his first collaboration with the French writer and playwright Henri Ghéon.
Originally written for string orchestra, piano, organ, harp and women’s choir, the work combines rich orchestral colour with a harmonic language clearly influenced by French music of the period. Across its six movements, Donostia creates a sound world in which modernity, spirituality and tradition come together, even incorporating the Gregorian melody In paradisum.
This edition makes the work available for the first time to performers, researchers and audiences interested in rediscovering a particularly innovative side of the composer.
